A common rule of thumb to figure out what weight you should get is 10% of the body weight plus 1 extra pound.
Our blankets use high quality materials and do not require the usage of a separate cover. The non-toxic hypo-allergenic beads are sewn directly into the blanket. Many mass produced weighted blankets require a weighted sub-unit that then has to be awkwardly tied to a cover. This also means twisting or bunching of the weighted portion inside the cover.
An integrated design also means less noise because the pellets are sewn into the softer more noise absorbent fabric instead of being retained in a course canvas like insert.
We also use smaller 5 inch squares for even weight distribution. If the pocket squares on a blanket are too large, all of the pellets will lump together in piles at the bottom of the squares. This leads to an uncomfortable, lumpy feel and defeats the purpose of the blanket. Smaller squares require more time to make but they mean "snug and secure" as opposed to "cumbersome and restrictive".
