About Sew Much Minky and More
I am a homeschooling mom of five . My passion is for my family and raising Godly, healthy, and happy children! I love to sew creative gifts for friends and family.
I started sewing and selling my items when I was a teenager. It was a great way for me to make extra money. I loved the time I spent sewing and the response I received from people was amazing. I started off sewing American Girl clothes and headbands. I would take them to craft shows and open houses at peoples homes. This kept me very busy for years. Sewing has always been something that I have loved, and I could spend 12 hours a day focused on [it] without realizing the time had slipped away.
Fast forward to the last couple of years, and life required me to put sewing on hold for the most part, because I've been busy with 5 kids, homeschooling, a husband and a house that I, sorta, need to keep clean.
The itch to start selling my creations again was always there but sleep deprivation kept me from pursuing anything until.... my youngest turned two and the newborn mommy brain fog began to lift. It was amazing and I felt like a new women. I had birthed 6 children in 9 years! The new born mommy brain fog had been continuous for all those years but I finally had a, somewhat, break. My itch to create started burning inside of me. People began to ask me to make things for them.
I started that sewing machine up; the hum of the sewing machine sang to my heart. And then I was surrounded by 5 children who all wanted to sew with me... and that is why I have 4 sewing machines:-) Sometimes the machines are all humming at the same time. but that's what is so amazing about having a home business--I am teaching my children right along with me. I am showing them how to run a business, and they are learning things that they will take into their adult life. They are learning about dedication and hard work.
Anyway, how did Minky fabrics, weighted blankets, and baby blankets come into my life? About 8 years ago, we were given our first 3 Minky blankets from a family member. It came at the perfect time, because I had just lost my sister to cancer and my 4th baby to a stillbirth, both within a year of each other. I slept with the Minky blanket every night because the feel of the fabric was so calming to me. I looked forward to climbing into bed and covering myself with the blanket. When I was pregnant with my Rainbow baby, I sat down and made her my first Minky blanket. I remember wrapping her in the Minky blanket all the time and finding so much comfort. I started to make them for all the family members‘ babies and for friends. Family members began to expect the blankets and look forward to receiving them.
Once the brain fog lifted, people started asking me to make blankets and weighted blankets. The requests came fast and furious[;] I decided it was time to open an online shop, because I was enjoying sewing so much and saw the benefit it had for our family. Sew Much Minky and More has been a great way for others to enjoy my creations and a fabulous way for me to contribute to our family.
